How It Works
Hot water heaters work by bringing hot air into the unit, transferring the heat from the air to water, and releasing the now-cooled air back outside the unit. At the same time, cold water is being brought in to the unit, heated, and then released to the zone needed. Hybrid hot water heaters are similar to hybrid cars in that they are able to run off electricity as well. If you need a lot of hot water for a short period of time (i.e. guests visiting), the water heater can be switched to hybrid mode, and it will run faster but less efficiently.
