Pellergy installs the 50-119 gallon Vaughn hybrid heat pump water heaters. Hybrid hot water heaters, like a hybrid car, can utilize electric energy when in need of an extra boost, however most normal operation can be completed by alternative fuels.
Vaughn Hybrid Heat Pump Water Heater
Heat Pump Systems
How It Works
Hot water heaters work by bringing hot air into the unit, transferring the heat from the air to water, and releasing the now-cooled air back outside the unit. At the same time, cold water is being brought in to the unit, heated, and then released to the zone needed. Hybrid hot water heaters are similar to hybrid cars in that they are able to run off electricity as well. If you need a lot of hot water for a short period of time (i.e. guests visiting), the water heater can be switched to hybrid mode, and it will run faster but less efficiently.

- At least a 10′ x 10′ x 7′ room (700 cubic feet of air space), if smaller, a louver must be installed
- Room location must not be cooler than 40°F
- Drain for condensation from heat pump dehumidification
- Installed locations with warm ambient air is advantageous, as it provides “free” heat
- Air filter requires regular cleaning, the frequency of which depends on environmental conditions
